BMW Motorrad sold 59,189 motorcycles worldwide in the
first half of 2012. While that’s down 2.3% compared to the 60,580 it
sold in the first half of 2011, BMW Motorrad says it expects significant
growth in the second half and therefore expects to reach a new sales
record for the year. For June 2012, BMW Motorrad sales were down 13.2%
(10,271 vs. 11,831 in June 2011).
As expected, the economic situation in the southern European motorcycle markets in particular led to a marked decline in purchasing activity among motorcycle customers in June 2012.” said Heiner Faust, Head of Sales and Marketing BMW Motorrad. “From a worldwide perspective, motorcycle markets are developing unevenly. All in all, BMW Motorrad has been able to assert itself well within this difficult market environment. For example, we are the market leader in the over 500cc segment in Germany, Italy and Spain. We will be providing a powerful purchase impetus in the second half of 2012 with our innovative new products such as the maxi scooters C600 Sport and C650GT, the new GS models in the entry-level and mid-range segment and other product measures. We are well on the way to achieving an all-time retail high in 2012.”
Worldwide sales of BMW brand vehicles climbed to 139,869 units (prev. yr. 134,444 /+4.0%) in the month under review. A total of 747,064 BMW brand vehicles (prev. yr. 689,884) have been delivered to customers worldwide since the start of the year – an increase of +8.3%.
Worldwide sales for MINI climbed 3.9% to 32,337 vehicles in the month under review (prev. yr 31,112). Year-to-date, MINI sales are up +7.0% to 151,875 units compared to 141,915 in the first six months of 2011.
